Women and Children's Status Report: Tennessee and Shelby County
The Women's Foundation for a Greater Memphis and the University of Memphis Institute for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership have just released the highly anticipated Women and Children's Status Report during Women's History Month.
The report is a comprehensive assessment of the status of women and children in Memphis and the surrounding areas, and it sheds light on the progress that has been made in recent years as well as the challenges that remain.
The report covers a range of topics related to women and children, including health, education, economic status, and more. One of the key findings of the report is that women in Memphis are still earning less than men on average, and this wage gap is even wider for women of color. This is despite the fact that women now make up a larger percentage of the workforce than ever before.
Another important finding of the report is that maternal mortality rates in Memphis are higher than the national average, particularly for women of color. This underscores the need for increased access to quality healthcare for women and children in the region.
The report also highlights some positive developments, such as an increase in the number of women who hold leadership positions in the community and a decline in the teen pregnancy rate. However, there is still much work to be done to ensure that all women and children in Memphis have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
The release of the Women and Children's Status Report is a call to action for the community to come together to address these issues and work towards a more equitable future for all. The Women's Foundation for a Greater Memphis and the University of Memphis Institute for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership are committed to continuing their research and advocacy to improve the lives of women and children in the region.
